Calverton shooting range

Anyone been lately ? If the rain holds off, going Friday. Just wondered if the target boards are in the usual sad state, if the porta johns are open, etc. Nassau Range has been closed for repairs or maintenance (although rumor has it that the county hired an unqualified contractor for lead remediation.) 28 yards is too short a distance for scoped rifles anyway.

Last time I went to Calverton range for skeet shoot , we left in 5 minutes , it was a communal shoot with all sorts of fellows with all sorts of shotguns just wandering around as they set up their clay throwers ,,,,,,,,, A bit too unorganized for me with my kids in tow ...........
Haven't been to the rifle section ....

Gonna go next Friday instead, weather permitting. Buddy can't go tomorrow and I hate this rawness in the air. Yes, the clay pit is the pits. Regarding the range in general, even before I retired I avoided going to the range on weekends; too many asshats showing off to their overly tattooed slu... I mean girlfriends, and too many people who have never been instructed in firearms safety at all, so I took a vacation day if I was not on a compressed work schedule. Weekdays are much better. Harry increased the price of the pit to the point where its much cheaper to go to Brookhaven or Yaphank to shoot clays so I just do rifle and pistol. I'll post my query on one of the shooting websites I frequent.

finally, a Monday (or a Friday for that matter) where it wasn't crappy weather. (I admit I avoid weekends with the yahoos and their tatooed sluts muzzling everyone and ignoring basic safety.) The range was only half filled, got my choice of spots as we arrived early and were the 2nd and 3rd cars on line. RO ran rifle side well, and a guy wearing a LaRue Technical jacket ran the pistol side as a volunteer, both allowing target replacement about every half hour. Good bunch of people as well, from 20 somethings to us geezers, and types of firearms ran the gamut. Saw nothing unsafe, no rapid firing heard. although I only go there once or twice a year, this was possibly the best I have seen the range which is, ahem, rather rustic, lol.
