Captain's Table - Chilly but Calm Tog Action

The wind finally cooperated yesterday for a Tog charter with a top-notch crew of Blackfish anglers including Sal, Frank, Steve, and Chef Nader. With very calm conditions we made the longer run to Fishers I. and were rewarded with solid Tog action all day.

First drop for the last 2 hours of the flood was in 55’ of water and the bite took off immediately. The Chef started us off with a nice 17” keeper followed quickly by Sal with a better 18” fish. Over the course of the next 2 hours everyone made contributions to the box with the largest 2 fish coming in at 5 and 5.8# respectively. As usual tons of shorts were mixed in, but we put 7 beautiful keepers on ice before the tide shifted to ebb.

Next stop was my favorite jig spot in 35’ of water close by. With one small adjustment of the anchor, we wound up on an extremely rocky section of my coordinates that claimed a large number of rigs to start. But with a lot of hard work and great skill on the part of the entire crew the guys finished the day with 8 more keepers, similar in size to the mornings catch for a final tally of 15 in the box.

With only 10 days remaining in my Tog season, I am hoping for at least another window or two to get out as the Tog bite is very consistent, as it often is, in the late innings.
