As a parent (divorced) of a 9 year old, 3rd grade...the Ex and I agreed to transfer our daughter to Catholic School in September. Happy and a little sadden at the same time.

Sad cause our district is./was one of the best in NYS. Harborfields. I went there and always wanted her to be a part of it. Graduate in the school I did so many years ago. Shes made many friends too.

Happy cause she needs some more structure, (that's on me and the ex)
and more so the district is slowly going Woke, CRT etc...I just don't agree with that at all. what they are pushing on little kids. is so wrong. Anyone who doesn't have them (little kids) will not understand

I am all for a Catholic education, with religion as part of the curriculum so that is great.

Not alone on this either. There are so many parents of little kids who are doing this or moving out of state
I truly believe that over the next 10 years, my daughter will be way better off at Catholic School than going to public school.

Living in the next town over, there are tons of issues with the NYS public school system. Luckily, 2/3 of my kids have graduated, and my youngest is now a sophomore in HS. They are for all intents and purposes regular well adjusted kids. I tend to believe that the rigors of sports in their lives have contributed to their behavior. That being said we know more than a handful of kids/parents who got mixed up and went down the wrong path. Some of them are drug related, some are entitlement problems, some are just poorly raised kids whose parents want to be their friends instead of parents.
My wife works in the Harborfields school district, and up until this year she was in Guidance at the HS level. She has seen some terrible cases and that includes kids and parents. She has also seen a few success stories of bad situations turned around. She personally knows a kid who comes to school when he isn't at work because he is homeless and does what he can. The school system did what it could, but in the end, its all about the parents.
To sum it up, your daughter might benefit from attending a catholic school, and there is nothing wrong with that education as I went to a catholic HS in Queens, but the burden is on the ex and your shoulders. Catholic school has the basically the same issues with drugs and poorly behaved kids as do public schools.
Raise your children the way you were raised. Respectful, decent, and hard working. I have a couple of friends who think I am too hard on my kids, that I shouldn't have them mow the lawn, clean the pool, help around the house, or have jobs at 16. Hold them accountable and responsible. The school is not going to fix your kid, you are.
 
For sure agree with much of what you said.
My issues is not with my daughter...she's fine, plays sports for the last 6 years, activities, swimming, camp, all 3's and 4 on her grades...

Just dont like the way the district is going. Maybe a lot of that is inescapable these days, no matter where we go, public or private. We shall see.

Sister down in SC, who is a teacher for 25+ years is saying the same thing about the path of education today.
 
My son just graduated from a public school- Westhampton Beach
Yeah, it had its drawbacks but he excelled because of the values instilled in him by me and my wife.
CRT is a buzzword of enormous fake proportions.
I went to PS and came out just fine
I had lots of friends growing up that went to catholic schools. Their lives are no better than mine and if anything they are worst off than me. They have just as many alcohol/drug issues, divorces, failed businesses, as the general population.
My wife went to catholic school her whole life.
A bunch of the boys she knows were victims of pedophile priests. some committed suicide.

I agree with Ally Kat

I would never send my kid to a private school that "shelters" them from the harsh realities of the real world
If you are concerned about your kid being "indoctrinated" and having ideas being jammed down their throat, I can think of no worse scenario than a one sided view of the world pushed on them as presented from a religious institution, regardless of what religion it is.
 
I only made it through 2nd grade at St. Anastasia's. Sister Mary What Was Her Name and I had a discussion about Adam and Eve naming all the animals. "But Sister, Dinosaurs lived on earth millions of years before Man!!"
 
My neighbor was aghast at some of the ideas her daughter had learned in college when she first came home as a college freshman. She didn't understand why a college had to get into all that, and they should just stick to math, science and history. BTW, she was at Notre Dame!
Notre Dame possibly excepted, I feel like catholic schools have an agenda, and it is mostly producing obedient Catholics, not necessarily giving kids a well rounded education and teaching them to think for themselves.
but if there is a real problem with the local public school district....

Maybe that's why Dinosaur names are so complicated to say?

Students who go to Catholic schools and become adults, are the ones who carry on the detail teachings of Jesus Christ, something “ we all adhere to in some way “ Imagine without Religion somewhere in our souls… Merry Christmas ?

Dsedy - You made a great decision. It is the environment that your family will embrace. I went to Catholic school my entire life. My wife did not. We had a few discussions regarding how we would raise our children. So, I had her shadow classes in the local public school and then in the local Catholic school. She said no comparison and both children went to Catholic grammar and high school. Both children participated in sports, and performed in the classroom. Never felt they were "sheltered". We have heard that comment many times! Actually just a lack of understanding. Or maybe fear. Not really for me to understand.

The renewed push to "woke" and CRT is absolutely real. That came out during COVID as parents "listened" in the background while they worked from home alongside their children in the home. An eye opener that was commonly known, but folks had their blinders on between work and daily responsibilities at home. I have never had so many colleagues, friends, and family ask me about Catholic schools in the last couple of years. I refer them to my children and have them speak with them along with their children. No regrets!
