Tackle Storage

As the snow falls, I start thinking of wiping down my rods, servicing reels and an issue I am hoping your guys can help me with; Rig storage on the boat.

Individual bucktails and lures are not an issue. However, when I tie a fluke rig that has a bucktail and teaser, they sometimes can tangle.

I have been using a “Boone Just Rigs Bag”. I try to carefully store them neatly in the individual pouches. Just wondering if anyone has anything better.

as a true piker, I wash out old freezer bags, both zip lock and the seal thingy, insert a cut to size piece of cardboard into the bag and put a rig on each side with up to a 1 and 1/2oz buck on them. I also hole punch a single hole in the top corner and put a carabiner through them all, sorting them by type of rig, etc. A little cheaper than $25. LOL. Been doing that for years- should have applied for a patent !!

By doing it this way I can make several depending on whether its for my kayak, my boat, or my buddy's boat and depending on what we are going for although in all likelihood its bay blues, fluke and weaks. (Stripers are mostly all shorts where I fish so until I surfcast in late October I don't even go for them.)

That is why I do not like zip lock bags. Too thin and too many hooks came poking through (even the freezer bags). The bags in the Boone Just Rigs Bag are more puncture resistant. I did get bags for this purposed at a fishing seminar, They were great. I have not located them with their quality since.

I still reuse the quart size freezer bags for my rigs but discarded the cardboard dividers in them and now cut up the store bought cookie plastic boxes or lids from takeout chinese into squares. Rigid, great for my Lep rigs, and one rig on each side. Maybe i need to sharpen the hooks as I have yet to puncture a bag lol. While I can easily afford store bought rigs and boone bags i simply get too much pleasure tying rigs with my own deer tails and reusing household discards.

Can y ou show me you bucktail storage? I have some rigs tied, some loose and now some Blackfish bucktails.
I keep them in plastic boxes (I'll take a picture when I get home tonight). Has far as pre-tied rigs. I have some of these
