Check out Duck Pond at Stony Brook

Heard some areas in Suffolk got 12" rain last 24hrs!
I got 10 inches, and for the first time in 40 years, my pool overflowed. In addition, a few houses in my neighborhood took a lot of water in a place I didn't know was possible! I didn't realize it rained that hard, and I was shocked to see all of the water when walking the dog this morning.

There was a ton of wildlife there. The fish are probably dead and hopefully the turtle will move on. Really sad. I can't imoage the loss for those homeowners in that special spot.

But I ask again, why so much effort to save an invasive species that has been known to wreck innumerable bass and walleye fisheries and isn't exactly tasty? If I were younger I would have been interested in helping people flooded out but to save carp ?

I can't find a direct statement from the DEC, but a few sources are stating this position.

What I'm wondering is where are all the ecos that want to bust you for having a fish that's a half-inch short or forgetting your SW registry receipt to stop the well-intentioned from spreading invasive species?

Job security in invasives maybe?

maybe they can salvage some of the native species from the pond that they just dumped the destructive carp in! I don't know if the retired DEC guy is on this website, but he might know if the act of doing that with an invasive species is a criminal act. Idiots.
