Cocktail Blues w Thresher Encounter

Left at 600AM and ran south of Sandy Hook looking for Spanish macks or blues to jig. On the way, we stopped on a bunker school that looked a little antsy. We threw a small Crocodile and a 6" YoZuri Surface cruiser into the mix and both hooked up with 6-8 lb blues. While releasing the 2nd fish, a 4' tail slashed thru the bunker about 15 feet from the boat. HOLY S#@T!!!
My buddy snagged a bunker and I set up a wire rig for the Thresher. We were ready in a few minutes but the bunker and the shark were gone. We continued South searching for more bunker schools.
Along the way, we found more 6-8 lb blues crashing rain bait just outside the breaking surf. Poppers were cast into the waves and we got another 25-30 nice blues. All released.

I love fishing poppers and remove the trebles and put on a single J hook in the rear of the plug for easy releases.

We had to be back in the early afternoon so we stopped blue fishing but stopped at every school of bunker from Sea Bright to Norton Point. Unfortunately, no more sharks but a beautiful and fun day. Dolphins were everywhere too. .
