I got a letter from my general practitioner who I have been going to my entire adult life. He is announcing to all his patients that he is beginning a "Concierge Medical Practice."
He is about 70 and most likely thinking of retirement, semi retirement. He is making he practice smaller and taking on fewer patients. He promises more individualized care, visits within 24 hours of calling for an appointment, house calls under certain conditions, longer office visits, ect.
He is charging $1800.00 per year or $3240.00 for a married couple.
For me, it doesn't seem to be worth it. I see the doctor once per year. That will be about a $2000.00 physical with the copays for the appointment, bloodwork, ect. At my age and physical condition, I rarely call the doctor about anything during the year.
My parents also see the same doctor. They are in their 90s and except for my mom's alzheimer's and my dad showing signs of dementia, don't have any serious health issues. I am thinking this is worth it for them. They can cut back on a few things to afford the cost. They are the ones who need to see a doctor on a moments notice and the house calls will come in handy.
I just see this as one step towards socialized medicine. If you want decent coverage, you will have to pay up to go to a doctor that actually has some competence and doesn't have 1000 other patients in his practice.
Does anyone have any experience with this?
Anybody know a good doctor in the Floral Park area? I will be needing a new one soon.
