Coronavirus

We have the ppl and culture we have
For good Or bad

lock downs in this country were doomed to failure before they even started

first off they were done improperly , with far far too many establishments allowed to be open while others shuttered
Secondly like I’ve said from the get go the ppl of this country simply aren’t geared to be locked down for something which so low a death rate amongst the majority of ppl

so we’ve hurt the economy severely for a strategy that was doomed to fail in this country this isn’t New Zealand or australia
"We have the ppl and culture we have
For good Or bad"

So you are agreeing that we as Americans are selfish people?

I agree we are a free and independent ppl
That don’t take well to being locked down And our livelihoods being destroyed

I agree that we don’t take well to stupid arbitrary rules foist upon us

Call that as u will

So Nancy has folks in the chamber to vote
But they should have been in quarantine

sounds like we are being saddled with stupid Arbitrary
Do as I say not as I do rules to me

Meanwhile, my wife who works one day a week for a dentist, is going to get (well, I am driving) her china virus vaccination on Wednesday. I told her that since she will soon be "safe" she now gets to go grocery shopping alone, picking up all takeout, etc. Good thing the recliner in the living room is REAL comfortable.

Ya think?? I wish this one wasn't true. Scary that he is a licensed pharmacist, because he obviously flunked the protein synthesis section of biochemistry...

Pharmacist Accused of Tampering With Vaccine Was Conspiracy Theorist, Police Say

The police say a Wisconsin pharmacist believed the Moderna vaccine would harm people and tried to sabotage the effort to vaccinate frontline workers.

A pharmacist was arrested on charges that he intentionally sabotaged more than 500 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine at the Aurora Medical Center in Grafton, Wis.

A pharmacist who was arrested on charges that he intentionally sabotaged more than 500 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine at a Wisconsin hospital was “an admitted conspiracy theorist” who believed the vaccine could harm people and “change their DNA,” according to the police in Grafton, Wis., where the man was employed.

The police said Steven Brandenburg, 46, who worked the night shift at the Aurora Medical Center in Grafton, Wis., had twice removed a box of vials of the Moderna vaccine from the refrigerator for periods of 12 hours, rendering them “useless.”

“Brandenburg admitted to doing this intentionally, knowing that it would diminish the effects of the vaccine,” the police said.

George Carlin said it best:

“Some people are stupid, some people are full of shit, and some people are f’in nuts.”

This gent may be all 3.

Hey Dom-
Another question...
If somebody is vaccinated and the vaccine works the odds of them getting infected and sick is greatly reduced i would think. Can they still be a carrier and pass it on to somebody that isn't vaccinated?
I specifically ask this because a parent of one of my sons friends is a nurse and got vaccinated and we will be in somewhat contact/proximity with her in the near future.

Hey Dom,

Any insight into this South Africa strain? Tried looking for the scientific covid thread on here but I’m not seeing it.

-Benny
Haven't seen anything on it besides the news saying "It's out there..." Good news is that the functionality of the spike protein is critical to the virus' existence, so big mutations there would stop the virus from invading cells making said mutation the end of the line.

AND, more importantly, the current vaccines are designed to develop antibodies to functional spike proteins, so they're covering all the current mutations.

Great questions, and "it's complicated"...

Here's the one FACT about the vaccines: They reduce the chances of getting seriously ill with a COVID-19 infection. In the case of serious infections that would require a trip to the ICU, the chances are damn close to 0 to that happening to a vaccinated person, which is terrific news!!!

However, 1 week after your second vaccination is not your personal "MLK Day - Free at last, free at last, Thank God Almighty, I'm free at last!!" You'll still want to be wearing a mask, social distance, etc. A successful vaccination series just means that it's highly unlikely COVID-19 will be cause of death on your death certificate.

OK, WTF does that mean?
  • For the vaccine to "work" in someone, a vaccinated person has to be invaded by COVID-19, which strictly speaking, means they are "infected". Don't forget that the vaccines are only 95% effective, so ~5% of vaccinated people still get COVID-19, albeit at a very reduced intensity.

  • So can a vaccinated person transmit to other people, vaccinated or not? The simple answer is HELL YES!! Even before vaccines there has been COVID-19 transmission by ASYMPTOMATIC patients, so if a vaccinated person's now vaccine-stimulated immune system is successfully fighting off a low-grade, even asymptomatic infection, they still can very well be infectious to others who may or may not be vaccinated.
If you get the two bullet points above, you'll see why ALL FOLKS, vaccinated or not, will need to continue to follow all the basics for the time it takes for the impact of herd immunity puts the kibosh on the virus:
  • Wearing a mask
  • Scrupulous hygiene
  • Social Distancing
  • Avoiding large gatherings
I know, I rambled CC, but yes, you'll need to wear your mask and stay distanced when you see your friend. I would assume that you'll see her wearing a mask because she understands all this too. At this point being vaccinated is a "stay of COVID-19 execution" for those vaccinated, nothing more. As more get vaccinated, more folks won't be seriously infected and the virus will run out of hosts, this is what "Herd Immunity" is all about. Once that happens, the return to normal will commence.

And don't shoot the messenger, but all the above, along with the slow rollout of vaccinations, and folks who are reluctant to get vaccinated, will just continue to delay a return to "normal" life well possibly into late 2021, if not 2022...
