Coronavirus

I carry a bandanna in my pocket. If a store still posts a sign saying that everyone must be using a face covering, and I absolutely positively have to enter and not find what I need elsewhere, I will knot the bandanna at the back of my head. I have managed not to have to pull it out of my pocket for about two months now. If our cruise requires masks next year, I will postpone it again. If the airline requires even vaxxed people to mask, I will take some ambien and skip the 6 oz of water and tiny snack. If Moderna decides a booster will be needed, I will get the third shot. A lot of ifs.

On another note. Just found out last week that my allergist finally was hospitalized for the virus. After closing from March to August last year, he had reopened the office until ten or twelve weeks ago when he caught it. It seems his wife had hemmed and hawed about getting the shot and dutiful husband decided to wait for her.

I’m staying in my assigned seat next week to see if they actually say anything. They don’t upfront let’s see what they say in the back. I always pick the last seat next to the bitches.

ooooohhhhhh.......lets see what I can get away with. Didn't you do that when you were 5?
I get first class treatment on flights. I’m not going to divulge why. Is that childish?
I would think you would like me to be like others no? Upfront they don’t say boo so long as you have it. Does it make a difference in the back? Why not see if that extra money is shutting up someone or not from front to back. I mean for you guys that care I’m sure you would like to know.

A 24-year-old Georgia man who contracted COVID-19 and required a double lung transplant, and who remains hospitalized, has expressed his regret he did not get vaccinated for the virus, which has so far killed more than 607,000 Americans.

Blake Bargatze had told his parents he was putting off receiving a COVID-19 vaccine because he felt uncertain about its possible side effects, WSB-TV in Atlanta reported.

Norwegian Cruise Line sues Florida over virus vaccination law

Associated Press July 14, 2021
The Norwegian Epic, owned by the Norwegian Cruise Line Corp., is shown in 2010 sailing through the Government Cut to the Port of Miami

MIAMI — Norwegian Cruise Line is challenging a new Florida law that prevents cruise companies from requiring passengers to show proof of vaccination against the COVID-19 virus.

The lawsuit, filed Tuesday in Miami federal court, contends that the law jeopardizes safe operation of cruise ships by increasing risk of contracting the virus. Norwegian intends to restart cruises from Florida ports Aug. 15 with vaccinations required for all passengers.

Norwegian wants a judge to lift the ban by Aug. 6. The law imposes a fine of $5,000 each time a cruise line mandates that a passenger provide vaccination proof. Norwegian claims it violates federal law and several constitutional rights.

The company, officially known as Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings or NCLH, says it won’t be able to sail from Florida unless a judge acts to block the law.

“The result would be a devastating, unrecoverable loss for everyone – not only for NCLH’s business but also for tens of thousands of passengers, employees, and stakeholders who all benefit from NCLH resuming safe operations as planned,” the lawsuit says.

“The only way NCLH could maintain its protocols and operations as currently planned is by abandoning Florida altogether,” the lawsuit adds.

The lawsuit names as a defendant Florida’s surgeon general, Dr. Scott Rivkees, who is head of the state Health Department. Rivkees is an appointee of Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis, whose spokeswoman said the cruise line’s policy discriminates against children under 12 and others who are not vaccinated.

DeSantis press secretary Christina Pushaw noted in an email that Florida recently won a lawsuit challenging several cruise industry regulations imposed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention over the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Florida already fought and won its case so that Norwegian and all other cruise lines can invite and serve all Americans on its vessels,” Pushaw said. “But apparently Norwegian prefers the shackles of the CDC to the freedom offered by Florida.”

The CDC is appealing that earlier decision by a Tampa federal judge.

Other cruise lines, including Carnival and Royal Caribbean, have already begun voyages from Florida with a variety of policies regarding COVID-19 vaccination.

Los Angeles County announced Thursday that it will require masks to be worn inside regardless of vaccination status, as the highly contagious Delta variant spreads throughout California.

Public health officials in L.A. County had already been urging residents to wear masks indoors. The mandate will begin Saturday night, just before midnight.

Only weeks ago, on June 15, Californians celebrated their state’s reopening as most restrictions. A statewide mask mandate was relaxed for vaccinated people.

The Delta variant is extremely contagious, scientists say, and may cause more severe illness. Dr. Anthony S. Fauci, the nation’s top infectious disease doctor, has described it as “the greatest threat in the U.S. to our attempt to eliminate Covid-19.” The tens of millions of Americans who are vaccinated are largely protected from the virus, including the Delta variant, scientists have said.

Most seem confined to people with various maladies, comorbidities, autoimmune situations, no ? Everyone in family and friends have been fully vaxxed since May and all of us over 65 since March. Not a reaction amongst us.
