Coronavirus

Our friend just found out that someone ( ! ) in her condo complex (55 and over) has the COVID19 but the "Association" letter from the complex will not tell the other owners there who it is. Is this the HIPPA crap ? Thoughts ?

they definitely should so that the other tenants know if they've had any interaction with her.........

Agreed- but who does our friend complain to ? The condo association is obviously scared of being sued by the sicko.

US Department of Health and Human Services, they are responsible for HIPAA administration.

Like it or not, it's a Federal Regulation to protect people's medical information. Think of it as your Health SSN. Would you want folks posting your SSN???

No, I would just want to know if my friend should be self-quarantined even more than she already is. I could care less about the infected's SSAN just whether or not she needs to be carefully monitored since our friend has had numerous surgeries and cancer over the last 5 years. Don't the other 100 people who may have had contact with the infected have any rights ?

I was surprised when I saw the New Rochelle lawyer's name pasted all over the place.

State Health Dept checks recent contacts reported to them by patient. That's how HOA found out. If your friend hadn't been contacted, then there was no reported interaction by the sick person. That being said, she should be vigilant and stay at home as much as possible and in her case for as long as possible considering her circumstances.

Thems the rules of HIPAA, like them or not. They drove me nuts for years.

something I'm not understanding (well - one other thing I'm not understanding)........................

I know there's a shortage of test kits.
They are telling you not to get tested if you don't display symptoms. But since you can be a carrier & not know it - shouldn't they be testing everyone if they really want to stop this from spreading?

I'm assuming that it's due to the shortage. But isn't this a Catch-22?
