The part that gets me the most right now
Is most business are going through the motions to satisfy appearances

Just today I went to the auto part store for a Belt for a gen set
Plex glass at the registers limited entry ( but it was pretty lite)

I gave the guy the belt he checks says they don’t have it
I’m mask less

I say you’ve got it but need to measure it out don’t do it my the numbers on the belt

He tells me no problem come in the back behind the counter to see if I can find it

So much for the glass partition
Just up for appearances

Mowed the lawn earlier and certainly wouldn't wear one then either. With eyeglasses, small ears, and the old style hearing aids, I can only comfortably use a mask with elastic. Put simply its just a pita to wear the other kind and all I wear at the grocery store is one of those dust masks you wear when sanding. I told the wife that if we have to wear masks at the Canadian falls I am not going.

I don't wear the mask unless I'm going into a closed place (store or inside pick up at a restaurant). Which I was doing before the Governor mandated all had to wear masks when in a public space about 2 weeks ago. Merchants have that posted on the doors & will not allow anyone in not wearing one. If they forgot it at home - merchant will provide them with one. If they refuse one - merchant will not sell to them & ask them to leave.

In the car.? No. There's no real reason to. You're the only on in there.
Outside in the yard working about? No.
Taking the dog for a walk? No.

Basically if I'm not going to becoming in contact with anyone - I go "commando" as far as the mask is concerned.

Each vehicle I own has:
  • a mask
  • container of disinfectant wipes (to wipe down anything on the car I may have touched after leaving a store)
  • bottle of hand sanitizer
  • spray bottle of Hydrogen Peroxide (for spraying down the mask - inside & out) when I take it off
I will continue to practice like the above - until someone can tell me its gone away & has numbers support that or a vaccine becomes available.

No one has ever caught the China Flu, no such disease.

If you're referring to COVID-19, not yet, give it another week or so. The LoO Pool Party is a poster child for "Stupid Human Tricks". These demonstrations may also fuel another surge.

While a spike would verify my taking precautions it would be really nice if neither the rioting or the pool party results in one

With all the years no decades of stupid humans making conscious decisions to ignore both sound advice and science , why would you think they would start now

Life’s more than simply science or in truth economics it’s more than even the two of them combined . Free will and human emotion both get added into the mix .

Pequa and wadder have in their minds what they need to do based on where they are in life

I have mine being a bit younger and leaning heavily on the economic points and my fatigue of both scientific and governmental intrusion into my life

You Dom have your bases on your extensive scientific background and your trust in that

And while I don’t think we have many 80 plus year olds I’ll toss my parents in as they and In fact most of my super senior condo of very well educated very experienced folks simply say at 80 plus enough is enough based on where they are in life. They aren’t willing to do this any longer .

Simply leaning on the science is a poor strategy no matter how right the science is

If it was no one would smoke
Drink or do drugs and we all know how that’s worked out
Ppl in Africa wouldn’t have unprotected sex and aids wouldn’t be rife with aids decades later
No one would drink and drive
Or go to work with the flu
Sciences says it’s all bad for us and it is

Doesn’t make a lick of difference
 
I’m Done.

Im not running out to crowded bars, resturants, meetings or Parties and I will wear a mask for stores that ask me to but if someone comes to my home or approaches me near my home , I’m cool with however it goes down.

If a business is doing something for "appearance only", I am quite interested so I can steer MY dollars elsewhere. I have taken this pretty serious and have changed my life to protect myself and my family. I am glad to see my "circle" has done the same. There have been numerous reports of underground bars, etc in my local area. And those are now the places I stay away from. I give my dollars to those who show concern for their clientele. Just my two cents.
 
I see vert few in my daily travels that are doing much other than that

Deli
Auto parts
Grocery
Butcher
All going through the motions

Not quite sure what you are saying.

Without putting words in your mouth, are you saying very few are showing concern for their clientele?
 
So if their masks are "around their necks" they are showing very little concern for their clientele.
If they are going through the motions, they would have masks on their face behind plexi glass as they were instructed to do.
 
just got back from kayaking. it seems the 30 somethings are all on their buddy's boats today, no masks. I saw one "regular" with family but I know they are from different households. No masks. Two boats anchored clam bellying, three middle aged men on each. No masks. Could be alternate lifestyles I suppose. Then I turn up my street and the granbabies are being walked around in family units that looked like something out of Mecca. I was counting on herd immunity but with such inconsistency I still feel if I want to hit 70 next year my summer and probably fall will be just the better half and me. I got takeout last night and noticed that half the employees were unmasked while cooking and figure that its quite possible that the restaurants that have a door between the kitchen and front counter are probably doing the same.

“ new normal “ would or will take hold
