Cuomo wants to double the size of the Artificial reef sites.

Maybe he will name the reef after himself or his dad. If we write letters that we need to socially distance on the reef maybe that will get it done. Does he plan on using coffins from nursing home patients to build these reefs? Would be great right next to the ugly , unaffordable wind farm pumping out clean electricity when its windy that cost 6x as much as conventional power sources while swatting thousands of birds out of the sky

Those wind farms will ultimately drive down the price of oil in the long run. I'm for all of the above and I hope it drives down the price of oil and natural gas. The Wind Farms will attract a lot of fish and they can build deep water reefs near them.

Yeah right, the magnetic field from the electrical lines running from those things will keep the fish far away. It's been proven in Europe already. The puny amount of electricity it created wont make a dent in oil prices as we allow other countries to curtail supply and raise price as they feel needed. Sounds good in theory but it's not going to work just like all the other things the government tells you is great while politicians line their pockets

What about the proposed Sixteen Fathom Reef between Jones and Fire Island Inlets? Nothing on the DEC web site that is easy to find. Some documents available with a Google search.

That would be a great addition. Perfect location for the Fire Island and Jones Inlet party boat fleets. It could take some of the pressure off of Cholera and Middle Ground.

Any new news??

It looks like we might more debris for reefs soon :)

The State Inspector General’s Office has investigated broken bolts on the Governor Mario Cuomo Bridge at Tappan Zee and efforts to conceal replacement of those faulty ones.

The state agency issued a statement on Tuesday saying, “As soon as the allegation of potentially faulty bolts was brought to the Inspector General’s attention, investigative staff responded immediately, reviewing thousands of documents, collecting evidence and conducting interviews with specific individuals.”

The IG’s office said it “reviewed audio of conversations between individuals who were involved in trying to conceal the replacement of bolts. Additionally, the Inspector General sought and obtained sworn testimony from engineers who admitted to covertly replacing broken bolts.”

I believe the draggers see this could happen and it's why they're airing their grievances.

Did they specifically call out the Sixteen Fathoms Reef proposal?

The total acreage of all the reefs combined is nothing but a speck on the total acreage of the New York Bight, South Shore and Long Island Sound. There is plenty of room out there. I can't understand why they would object to something that is a fraction of a percent of total underwater land.

Not that reef, but they have pointed to others that are in the path of their traditional grounds.

sounds like a good plan for the fishing community ...its a move in the right direction and I welcome anything that may improve our fishing grounds ...

as far as the windmills I'm still on the fence ..I didnt support it when GW Bush was pushing it or do I now...I have not seen or read everything pro or con ..so as of now still on the fence..

The reason for it is to cut down our carbon footprint and help save the earth ? so if it will interfere with fish migration are we trying to solve one problem with another...But I have fished the windmills off the block & it seems to be fine.....

anyone who's been out by the proposed area know's its in the middle of two very productive fishing area's & I would hate to lose them...and the lines would cut through the middle of several others ...

The 16 Fathoms Reef Plan was scrapped because it would've been a navigation hazard with all the large ships and fishing boats. The DEC in Stony Brook told me that. Maybe it'll be built alongside the Wind Farm.
