Everybody Ready for Tog Season?

Hey all, check out my thoughts on my new tog jigging setup here:

I'm ready! I have my jigmaster with 30 pound Ande pink on my glass meat stick.
I have # 4 Virginia hooks, perlon hard monofilament leader and 10 ounce bank sinkers.
All set to go.

Old school ..... I like it !

I still have my 6 ft solid glass rod with a wooden butt that I bought at a garage sale for $1.00. Had broken off guides. I painted the blank and re-wrapped it. It still has a Penn Long Beach 65 loaded with 30 lb Pink Ande. It was my go to blackfish and cod stick when I was in high school.

1143 Lami glass blank from the eighties. Cut to 6 1/2 ft. Penn 1/0 with 30 lb Ande. 50lb Perlon leader with a size 3 Virginia hook. That rig, which I still use today helped me land a personal best of 16 1/2 lbs on the east side of Fishers Island. Many years ago, a Capt I worked for told me something everyone forgets today...."Joey, a piece of fresh bait on the right size hook will outfish every gizmo that's for sale in every tackle shop"

Preach.

Made it out in North Jersey today to start Tog season 2019. Good action on dinner plate porgies, 1 stud of a trigger, and multitudes of tog. Was a great day on the water, fished 35 fow using my own jigs ranging from 3/4 to 1-1/2 oz. Biggest fish went 23" and 8#, my new PB. Can't wait to find a bigger one! :)View attachment 10890
What do you tip those jigs with ?

If thats your fav blackfish combo enjoy it. Mono still has time and place. I use a custom lami glb graphite with a sealine 50h spooled with 50lb ande specifically for 2 high profile wrecks. Both must be made of razor blades and broken glass. braid doesn't last long, the mono and xh stick give me a chance.

Got 3 trips booked already in one week in October. One being with Capt Mike onboard 'The Captains Table' and then the following day is the CusterFluck.
