Firewood

So I went back to the "source" yesterday after work and there was still a ton of wood still there for the taking.
Of course I couldn't resist so I cut up another trailers worth and lumped it home.
My trailer is 4x8x2 so piled high each load is about 1/2 a cords worth.
That's 4 loads so far which hopefully is a bout 2 cords
They left the dropped trees in long lengths so although its a lot of work to cut up and take it away, it's nice to be able to cut it to length I want.
This part of the process- the gathering and bringing it home, is by far the worst part.
Once it's home the splitting and stacking at a leisurely pace is not an issue(y)

Chinacat plus you get to leave all the unsplitable junk there the forks and weird knots stumpwood ext, on the question before about seasoned wood.Seasoned wood is suppose to be any wood with 20% moisture or less .Green fresh split oak red or white is about 60% plus. With a $40 plus moisture meter you'll never get screwed again when you order your wood you tell them you have a meter and your gonna check it.And when it shows up you check it and not just the show wood on the back of the truck from the middle of the pile.If you dont like it send them on there way.Its enough that seems like most firewood dealers have no clue what a real cord looks like selling wet wood is a no no.

Yes, picking and choosing what I want to take is indeed a good thing

I've had some guys drop a dump truck load on my property before and that's always an adventure because its a mixed bag of everything.

The discussion on how to deal with buying and checking wood from somebody is totally foreign to me so I can't even comment on that. :p8-)

Hopefully something like this comes our way this winter to make all this work gathering, splitting, and stacking worthwhile 8-) (y)

Hello my name is Chinacat and I’m a woodaholic?

Just got home with load 5 from same place and have to unload trailerView attachment 11493
So this picture is where I got the wood, not home. All that sawdust is from me cutting it up. I put the gate up and then filled up that space in the back
I'm definitely pushing the trailer to the limit with ALOT of weight.
It's all local back roads and maybe 2 miles away from home at most, if that.

I'm starting to look again for wood locally. Two years ago I scored a couple of loads where they actually were happy to load my trailer for me !

Sometimes I get lucky and the landscaping crew that dropped the trees is very anxious to get rid of it so they can finish the clean-up and move on that they they help me put it on the trailer AND ride on the trailer and help me unload it at home so we can go back and get another load. Although that only happens if VERY close to home.

Hi Im flounderjoe and I am woodaholic. At least thats what my wife and kids say I buy a load and refresh during the year when i get a hold of wood .Its nice to be able to split it at your lesure .The price i paid i had to get 4 cords make that 6 sent 2 to my daugthers house. And they were dry and real cords plus.

I started burning for the season

started just before halloween - only a couple of nights - hasn't really dipped below 50 (except at night a couple of times) - heat wanted to come on if set at 64 - so I take the chill out & prevent that from happening - just finished splitting & stacking my last delivery - I'm at a little over 2 chords right now - that should take me into January when I'll be looking for more
