Can't put anything past Roccus the scientist! That is indeed a photomicrograph (microscope photograph) of sub cellular components tagged with 3 different fluorescent dyes; Fluorescein, Rhodamine, and Hoechst. Very standard technique used in genetic studies.
And, yes, I know we are getting way too technical for a funny fishing joke!
