fluke rigs

There are so many fluke rigs. I use to drag bait until many (many) years ago until I saw a seminar given by Captain Rich Tenreiro. After the seminar I switched to the bucktail rig with a bucktail on the bottom and a teaser on top.

Of course I learned The "B/S" Fluke Jiggin' Rig (The "B/S" Fluke Jiggin' Rig) from Leprechaun and use it mostly on the south shore.

I also swap in the “Popcorn Rig” from time to time under certain conditions.

There are so many rigs. What fluke rig(s) do you use? Why?

I've still got several of these old brass wire rigs that were my father's. I'm mostly using them until they disappear.

Needless to say, my kid will probably be fishing with them. I believe I've got enough cr@p to open my own tackle store.

That being said, I'm a fan of bucktails and tied rigs too. Circle hooks wherever possible.

Usually start off with a hi - low rig with lightest appropriate weight on the bottom. First above the weight either a poison tail or a Spro jig. Above that is usually a feather or skirted taeser. Adorn each with a spearing, squid, or Fluke belly. Sometimes Gulp grubs.

Bucktails and teaser. Or depending on conditions ill go chicken rig or I've started using fluke spoons when the drift speed picks up a bit. I've also given the Gulp! Jerk Shad and 1/4 oz jig head a shot.

Put up some numbers end of last year with that. 10lb braid, 20lb flouro in the bay.

My buddy said it took a pool yesterday on a very slow day!

Whatever I use, I try to limit scope. Not against some scope, but close to vertical works for me. And especially around structure, although this year will be using much more spot lock and carve that piece more precisely. Started with it last year and numbers and size went up. Plus less gear lost. Scope = gear dragged INTO trouble!
