Fluke, sea bass and scup

from what you're saying when NJ Sea bass season is open and ny is closed they can fish in New York waters and keep bass.
That makes no sense. Even if you fished NJ waters and kept fish legally, when you reentered NY waters, if you were boarded you would have illegal fish.

I'm so confused.

It seems like they want to put party boat captains out of business. That is the impression I am getting. Just make it one regulation for new York NJ Connecticut and Rhode island. Absolute stupidity.

Here's a couple of real nice biscuits taken on Capt. Mike's boat during the Spring Porgy run - both went back - which about killed me. We caught MANY such fish that day. You can bet your last GULP! grub that the Conn. boats fishing deep in the Peconics ain't throwin' those fish back.

Classic NJ, "Gimme more!!!"

NY didn't officially announce until April 21 last year. I think some local tackle shop posted a week ago that the limit would be 5 fish at 18". Truly hope this is wrong. A bag of 5 will decimate the biomass especially when dropping the size. I can live with 3 or even 2 at 18" but would really like to see a slot.

NJ has voted on and approved option 2:
May 2 - Sep 27 .... 2 slots between 17 and 17.99 and 1 over 18

Opinion: 2 fish to fit inside a 1" slot coupled with inevitable high grading for that single over 18 - could be recipe for trouble.... although the party boats will enjoy it...

But they are smart. I went on a call and whomever was representing NJ had a kit when they wanted to cut there season by one day. Finally NY gave up one day so they could move on.

Now, with fish between 17 and 17.99 and 1 over 18, more people will fish. Shops sell more bait, more rigs and supplies with misc. tackle (rods and reels) and more boat rentals. People from NY go to NJ to fish.

Also a 1" slot is so very tight as to be ridiculous. That 17.0" fish ain't going to be 17.0 if it sits in the sun, along with an 18.0" fish going from over the slot, into the high end of the slot...

A 17 is about dinner for three (unless some of you are piggish) and only if that fish has been on bait. I do like the limit of just three though.
