Good start Not So Good End

Got out early Friday morning to catch the flood tide in Plum Gut. Passed by a rather large private yacht anchored off Orient State Park, what a beauty. Got to the Gut & only 2 other boats & a head boat making the drift. I had been concerned about the new moon tide, but it wasn’t running too strong & slowed & ended about an hour before I thought it would, by then I had a 32” bass in the box & 2 big blues released. Ran to the north side of Plum Island where the tide was still
Really cranking, 2 sea bass & time to call it a morning. Back to the ramp, passed by the yacht & they had 5 or 6 jet skies out. On the trailer, all good. I take a look up when back home & see I had forgotten my sea bass rod in the rocket launcher & now a tree along the way had made it about 3’ shorter. When I tie up at the ramp I have to climb up on the gunnel to lower the VHF antenna, can’t believe I missed the rod………. John

It's always something...

Can't even begin to count how many times I run back down to the boat to grab, remove or reposition something I had forgotten to do. It's especially funny when it's a midnight run down to the dock in the rain to make sure I put the motor in the up position...

Nice work, John. I was in FL last week or I would have been out there as well.

I am open this Friday so I will be doing the Bass-on-Bass thing myself, hopefully before the Holiday crowds arrive!
Maybe I will see you out there

That's the yacht we saw last Sunday fishing in Rhode Island, he had a big cc in tow, he was headed west towards NY.

Won’t be able to make it Friday Mike. I went yesterday ( Wednesday) when the W/N/W came up stronger & earlier than predicted, that shut down the Gut for me, as I marked fish but couldn’t get a bite. Few other boats & I didn’t see a fish, no other boat stayed long. The north side of Plum was all white water with the wind against tide. I did manage 2 keeper sea bass until I got tired of the uncomfortable conditions & called it a day. Catch ‘em up on Friday Capt……….John

Yes, that strong West wind forced me to postpone my Montauk charter yesterday.

Although we are off the moon, I am still hoping to lad at least one Striper for the table with the correct drift. I also anticipate a good Sea Bass bite.
Good luck on your next trip out.
