Governor Cuomo signs Plastic Bag Bill...

We have
Its already in effect in Suffolk and working out just fine. Inconvenient? Yeah. Effective? Absolutely!!

I totally agree. I get grossed out by some of the "bring your own bags" that people bring into the supermarket. I honestly believe this has to end. I'm no germaphobe but my friend's daughter works the register at a local supermarket and she tells me horror stories, from smelling like cat pee to roaches jumping out them.

They just opened a Whole Foods down the road and they have nice clean paper bags :)

Are they charging for paper too?

I have to admit, living on the east end I lost track as to whether it is actual county wide right now or just in effect in the 5 east end towns?

Interesting editorial today in Portland paper which clearly defines the carbon footprint for all bag options, along with the trade offs for going eliminating single use plastic. Many towns in Maine have banned the single use bags, and legislature is considering a state-wide ban.

Our View: Paper or plastic? The answer’s not as clear as you think.
NPR [ not my favorite station ] ran a segment last week that a consumer needs to use TWENTY THOUSAND PLASTIC BAGS to equal the carbon footprint of ONE reuseable COTTON BAG ....... An Amazing stst ....
