Gulf of Mexico

Angler
Made a right turn out of Venice Inlet yesterday, and headed to some reefs up in the Sarasota area in search of Kingfish. Found plenty of life with pods of Blue runner’s which we live lined, and slow trolled. Had a couple nice ones on, but they managed their escape. Lot’s of Spanish Mackerel, and one 250-300 Bull Shark which beat me up pretty good. The highlight of the day was an enormous Cobia my brother had on. It made several spectacular jumps before earning its freedom. Nothing for the table, but kept some fish for use as baits on future trips, including this stinking Barracuda.

Nice trip!

Was supposed to get down to St James City in January and fish inshore with a good friend. He was going to line up another friend to get us out in the Gulf of America for a trip but now all is up in the air with a knee rehab.

Questions like that are frightening. Inexperienced boaters/anglers are the main cause of injuries and death on the water. I will give you a general education.
