I rode the subway all the time - everywhere - many times carrying a laptop - at all hours - never, ever felt like I was in danger.

This was from 1992 to 2012 when I retired.

Made no sense to drive in NYC - so I did the subway thing. Heck. I can remember one Octoberfest when I went with a German supplier into NYC's Little Germany which I didn't even know existed prior to this. Came out loaded around 11:30/midnight.

Took the subway to Penn from there lugging a laptop, dressed in a suit. Now there's a target. No fears.

The ’safest‘ place on a subway station is with your back firmly planted on the wall until the train enters and the doors are open. Alao don’t make eye contact.

I remember that time.

I understand Disney was the catalyst that helped get Times Square cleaned up. They informed NYC that they intended to buy two buildings down there & make a huge investment on Broadway but the City had to clean it up first.

All the street walkers, sex shops, etc. disappeared. They wanted the area "family friendly".
