Hurricane Awareness

F that!

It really makes my teeth itch when people justify breaches in the beaches with "look how clean the water is!"

It ain't gonna be clean when it's in your living room. The barrier beaches are our hurricane protection. I'm also seeing a butt-ton of stupidity with FEMA funds and "sustainability" laws that cause street ends to be raised, and your new bulkhead needs to be raised 18 inches.

Because water seeks its own what?

Meanwhile you're a foot and a half further from your deck except when that once in a decade storm event is finally happening.
So what do breaches cause?

More water and higher tides
Peeps I know in CM with houses on the creeks had issues when the westhampton big breach was open many years ago

Thank you.

We had much bigger swings in tide from the breach after Sandy. It's another hole in the bucket and I'd gladly take a little less clean water for the protection that would come from filling it in.

If tides reach a certain height regardless, how does it get higher? Granted, the water will rise quicker and then retreat sooner. The WH breach was the best thing that could have happened to the bay. And those were my 4 trips a week on boats and surf. Folks I fished with noticed a slightly higher and lower for a bit and then it settled back to "normal". But as we see during storms, one creek gets flooded and others do not. Too many factor to generalize. Absolute shame it was closed.

Oh, and turned into a "members only" using MY MONEY to fix it. That makes my skin crawl.

..............put sand on a sand bar at my expense (but my family and I cannot enjoy) and watch the tide take it away to steal my money again and repeat.
There shouldn’t be any reason you can’t enjoy it? That aside, if we lose the barrier islands, so may go the large parts of the mainland, and huge effects to marine estuaries.

Signs say "By Permit Only", or "For Residents Only". I already paid for it.............Shall I go on?

And I understand that, but breaches happen naturally, and they close naturally.
