Spent Friday sunset flipping rocks with my son at low tide for way too many asian crabs. Stopped by Cow Harbor on Saturday and chatted with Mark about the upcoming Tog season, and walked out with green crabs for a Sunday AM trip. At the ramp about 7am and the wind was noticeably stronger than predicted. Motored out and I changed my mind about a run to the middle with NE 15-20. I also wanted to prospect some in tight shallow spots that was going to wait until at least late morning with the full moon low tide. So we motored to a spot in about 40 feet and dropped the hook. We had clams, squid, greens and asians to see what the fish liked best. Tight chop with the wind that had no intentions of letting up, and the occasional 4 foot roller would break over the bow and wet the deck. Luckily, the fish didn't mind. Lots of big porgies, some small to medium sea bass, as well as a pair of keepers. Porgies liked clam, as well as some cbass, which also liked the green crab. We also found the tog were very will to hit the crab baits. We landed about 20 fish, with two of that would've come home with us if it was next Sunday. Fished the entire incoming hoping the wind would drop out so I could poke around shallow, but I was not willing to risk it with the rollers that would've gotten worse the closer I got the shore. Headed to the ramp and gave away the remaining crabs to the brave souls heading out into the slop. Hoping I can make some time next Sunday for opening day.
