Got out early Thanksgiving morning with my daughter Ally and cousin Mark from VB. The boat was originally his, so this trip had to happen to get him back on his former vessel, and mother nature made it an easy day to run her, Broke the inlet at 7am and headed out to 11b in calm conditions, cruising at 30 kts, and anchored at 55ft. Plenty of action around the slack tide, but nothing worth measuring. Re anchored twice trying to get on more productive pieces but we couldn't find any decent sized fish. We did have a great time teaching Ally how to fish for Tog. There was plenty of frustration, and rebaiting, and a few choice words that had us laughing, but she eventually got the hang of it.
With time getting short, we pulled anchor and fished an inshore area at 35 ft that was closer to the ramp. We had another good bite going with the incoming water, and these fish were bigger and more ornery, but the closest we got was 15 1/2 inches. Called it a morning and opened up the twins full for the quick ride back. The only good thing about not catching keepers is a lot less cleaning especially with a busy afternoon.
I considered one last trip yesterday in the snow, but the lack of decent sized fish kept me home relaxing after a very busy weekend. That will wrap up a fun season for us on the DrewsCrews, that started with a motor swap over the winter, a few bumps in the road on that journey, but overall an enjoyable and dependable year for the boat. She will get one last cleaning next weekend and bring her indoors for the winter, and hopefully more upgrades for next year.
