I'm ready for a New Lighter Tog Set up

If you decide that these reels are too nich-ey, or that you won't be able to justify the price, given limited usage or some such thing - then by all means look at the Tsunami Evict - a TON of value for the modest asking price. . . I really do like that reel!

I have the 2000 - MORE than enough for any fluke and tog too, for that matter.

Have you seen this thread?:

If you do decide to buy, please consider giving John at Trophy Tackle a shot at your business. Good dude that
is all about his customers. . .

Yes...I actually re-read it today...does trophy also have the blackhole charter rods?? I don't see it on his website....I will consider trophy when I decide what the heck to do....I would go to the shop but I am far away...thanks for the insight

lol!! I have been reading so much the last few days I'm spinning...but I probably did read it......funny thing about the IRTs there are no independent reviews out there......I even asked them to point me in the direction of one and they could not.....then again I didn't find any horror stories either....but the EVICT does come thru with flying colors.......usually I am impulsive with tackle buying and sometimes regret it....but since it's off season and I am venturing into set ups i have little experience with, I can research a bit.....with the EXPO show I can get my hands on everything and decide...thanks again

Gearing and load-bearing internals, its all about the metallurgy! Stainless Steel > brass > aluminum > diecast zinc crapola.

701L spinner has been excellent for blackfish jigging up to 2-3oz (rarely). Biggest specimen was 8lb and the rod handled it with ease. I did lose a pig that still haunts me. Bit through the 30# F on the jig trailer. Bumped it up to 50# since. Very sensitive. I think it should work well for fluke as well.

Just finished my 731M spiral wrap conventional, but did not test it yet. Waiting for spring!

Planning to check out some MH blanks (761MH or 73 CC) at the Edison show next weekend. Also thinking about a 731M spinner.... Anyone have experience with the MH's? I don't foresee any Amberjack popping in my near future :)

Hmmm, good commentary. I personally am thinking hard about acquiring a BH Challenger Bank 691UL spinner for tog jigging. Anybody have any input on this? Not enough rod?

A guy that I fish with has a 691UL that he built. He uses for casting 1/2 to 1-1/2 oz bucktails up current for fluke. He has caught them up to 6#, but that rod is DOUBLED. He said that he would not use it for tog in over 30' or so. I am sure it would work but you might get taken for a fun ride. Seeing his in action is actually what led me to the 701L.

Few vids of the 701L and 8# blackfish. First build so not factory quality by any means ?. IMG_3337.webp

Hmmm, again. One of my fishin’ buddies just picked up an Ecooda 300gram spinner for tog jigging. Got it from Fisherman’s Depot in Whitestone. Around $250. Looks to be a really beautiful build, but I am a more than a bit leery of a pretty much unknown China-built rod. I’d much rather go with a known entity.

What I would really like is a spinning version of my terrific Daiwa Proteus PRSS64HB caster. What a tog killer that one is. Alas, no luck, Daiwa only offers a Proteus SS-series H spinner in the 7’ length.
