I'm ready for a New Lighter Tog Set up

I have loved me some Shimano Ocea Jiggers since the early 2000’s . Have never failed me and have been fished hard, 1500p and 2000p’s. All self serviced and always upgraded smoothdrags and handles.

Just re-upped on new 1501hg and 2001nrhg for this past summer/fall season. They worked smashingly and the fall lever for jigging is pretty cool and usable.

Plan on getting a new 1501PG for Tog as my older 1500p righty’s can be used by others in my fishing party .

I don't think there’s ever been a better-built, higher-tolerance round reel for our local bottom fishing than the Ocea Jigger 1500P. That “spool lock” feature is awesome!

Well, the Saltiga 15 can certainly compete, but that’s about it. Just beautiful engineering, smart use of materials and over-all ergonomic excellence in these two big-dollar Japanese thoroughbreds. And I would know, as I maintain a fair amount of them every Winter for some high-profile, well-known dudes. Almost never an issue - just clean out last season’s old lube, re-lube, and send them back to their owners for another year of mule-pulling.

Speaking of which, just pulled the trigger from Japan. Done and done on the new 1501pg . Sometimes we all just need a little tap tap to be convinced to take out the plastic lol.

CaptFP - sorry, I missed your post. From what I’ve been told, the new Penn low-profile reels come out of the same Korean plant as the Abu Revos. The manufacturer’s name is Doyo. I dunno if all the reels directly match, company to company. But if they do, you can’t go wrong either way.

Here, take a look around Doyo’s website, and check out how familiar their home market’s reels appear to what Abu and now Penn sell here: ▒ 도요피싱 ▒ #1 BAIT CASTER

Lep- Thanks I'll look into both. Not ready to pull the trigger yet. When I am ill come check yours out first for a comparison. Talking with a customer today, he has been using a Tranx since they came out and other than freshwater rinse with a blast of WD-40 or Corrosion X its untouched. He sails with us 3 or 4 days a week, pairs it with a Trevala M. I made a drop with it, spool spins free and cranks smooth. Ya its scratched and dinged but works great, get what you pay for quality piece. Its on my short list
