Landscaping

Oh boy. ?
Wader. it’s compacted gravel.

But I do think a tool that can slice down and then separate with arm motion, and then I can shovel easily would work. Pick axe is good too. I’ll try the sledge hammer also if I angle it correctly it could separate some chucks

Hit the edges to break it up and dont try to be Thor a little goes a long way

Hmmm, looks like someone never did well on the Reading Comprehension section of standardized tests...

Regardless, had my "Landscape" moment yesterday. Was sitting doing crosswords and pouting because there was zero wind, but tide too low to go out when I realized I had hit the Scotts Triple Action Turfbuilder Trifecta. It was calm, no rain expected for at least 24 hours, and the lawn was damp from a light overnight rain.

Got my butt up and grabbed the spreader. I had bought the fertilizer almost a month ago and it was now definitely time, in that the conditions were perfect and the dandelions were starting to rear their ugly heads. By the end of the day, they were definitely feeling the effects of "Chemical Warfare". I'm sure I'll be doing the first mowing after this weekend's storm...

missed the word gravel - read driveway apron - saw a concrete driveway in the picture & went with that

When I removed mine - the compacted stone underneath was nearly as hard as the asphalt - would have had difficulty removing it with a shovel or ax - but the hammer broke it up when going through the asphalt.

Good luck.

Removed cleaned and reinstalled bluestone around pavers to front door 2 day job ?

I'm curious. If the hammer broke it up nicely when going through the asphalt then how would you know that the compacted stone underneath was nearly as hard and would have been difficult to remove with a shovel or ax?

because in several cases it broke up as a large chunk of the asphalt & when I removed the asphalt there was unbroken up compacted stone which I then attempted to brake up with the ax I initially started with & all it would do is chip out small pieces of stone....I then went back in with the hammer to break those up

what is under asphalt & poured concrete is not compacted gravel if it was done correctly - it is crushed stone tamped/compacted down which is then "dusted" with concrete/cement over the top & wet down to bond the stone together - sort of a foundation for the top layer

satisfied or do you want to continue beating this to death?
