Cleaned out the the dead part of my lantana from last year as the new growth was coming up (they grow as a perennial
down here) & discovered............wait for it.........wait for it - a pair of Mourning Doves (which I always thought was spelled Morning} that must have had a failure on their offspring's first flight.

The chick was nestled in one of the lanatna with one of the adults right next to it that immediately began flapping its wings to scare me off. The other adult then proceeded to again made me the target of an aerial assualt.

Not wanting to disturb the happy bird family - I retreated.

This is getting repetitive.

They are still there. One adult (Manfred von Richthofen?) is sitting on the post rail fence keeping an eye out (probably for me) & the other is down in the flower bed with the chick.

Hope they can get the chick airborne before long. Ever since Max died the population of cats seen in my yard has noticably increased, Which is actually helping with the mole/vole population back there.

These are the Lantana after getting rid of last years dead growth. They are mature plants initially planted about 5 or 6 years ago. Great for sunny locations.
  • No water except what nature provides.
  • No Fertilizer.
  • Full Sun all day (dawn to dusk)
  • Just put 'em in the ground & walk away.

Atracts butterflies, Hummingbirds & bees like crazy.
By August they'll be 6 to 8 feet tall & 5 feet wide. You won't even be able to see my truck behind them.

Excellent

just had another encounter with a snake - going about 5 feet & as thick as my arm - Black Rat Snake - no teeth, harmless to humans (deadlty to rodents & moles (y)) but dang do they startle you when you aren't expecting them - they can get to eight feet

I Hate Snakes!!

moving some broken up concerte chunks & mini bolders (football size) in light rain from the front to around the back to use as edging around the Banana Tree Garden - heaven help my back

Finished reconfiguring the Banana Tree Garden...

Removed 1/2 dozen of the trees & disyributed them to friend & nieghbors.
Removed all of the Canna.
Relocated some of the ground cover & used aforementioned boulders/concrete for some rustic edging.

Now shower & get my fishing gear together for tomorrow's Tourny.

Aren’t you too old tor that stuff, I know that I am. You need a Condo. :)

Pulling up some big crabgrass. I have no shad in my yard so this stuff took off. I will also be applying a mixture of Tenacity and surfactant to get rid of the smaller stuff.
