Leader Material

I'm trying to find 'Hard line' leader material to snell my own hooks. Usually the ones you see on party boats that are hanging up. I'm probably not searching for it the correct way. Can anyone point me in right direction? TIA

SnapperHead, I have been looking for the same stuff. I think you are referring to the straight leader material that used to be available at Terminal Tackle in Kings Park, LI.

They closed a few years ago and I have been looking for a mail order place that sold basic tackle in bulk like that. I miss those guys! I first started shopping there after old Matt Ahern used to write about them.

I think that's it. It's all pre cut already.

I had bought a couple dozen of those straight leaders a decade ago at a fishing flea market at a temple in Merrick. Since then I just buy the reels off Amazon, but I only use fluoro now. Its stiff enough for my kayakfishing as I no longer use snelled hooks or natural bait except if livelining.

Yea, seems to be hard to come by now.

I have some here at the house. When you swing by to pickup your other "goodie" you can have the leader material too. I stopped using it years ago.

Awesome, thank you very much! I like with the stiffer line when tying it to stand off it doesn't twist up on the leader line.

it looks like a clothes line to the fish ...yes thousands of fish have been caught with it.....but I gotta say it because your a nice guy Matt...don't use that chit!! lol

Flouro carbon on the business end, makes a difference.

I do use Flouro for the leader. I wanted the straight leaders to do stand off of that.

TYNEX leader material.Greg on the Ocean Eagel and Steve EC Newell man use to sell it.I have long stopped using TYNEX . Fluorocarbon works for me on the tog grounds.I can see where it may be useful for cod/Seabass on bait rigs though.Id just use a standoff knot instead and it works good enough.

The tynex is far less visable then perlon. It does make a dropper loop stand out well if not tying a standoff knot.

I hear ya snap. I use flouro for tog leaders but the ones your talking about I’ve only seen in stores stored in pvc tubes. How bout this?
