So when they made the speed limit to 55. Everyone that used to drive over that were now illegal. I dont hear them screaming. It also saved lives. When they made it mandatory to wear seatbelts there were people who refused to wear them. Before marijuana was illegal people did it. Now those that do it are criminals when they were not before. I can keep going on and on. What is so hard to understand about there being no real reason to own one other than bragging to friends or taking to the range?

How are laws "supposed " to be written in your opinion?

I've enumerated reasons that you just dismiss because you don't like them. My question to you and your other commie buddy is what is your obsession with AR-15s? What's so special about them?

As far as laws, they are supposed to be thought out well enough to accomplish their purpose without placing an undue burden on the population. I've already explained how the SAFE law was utterly ineffective (hospital shooting I mentioned earlier) yet instantly criminalizes thousands upon thousands of people who owned something perfectly harmless and would have continued to do so forever. BTW, I disagree with seat-belt laws and the criminalization of marijuana too. It's none of the government's G. D. business. And the 55 MPH speed limit did nothing to save lives. It was intended to save gas, and it didn't do that very well either. Another piece of feel-good cr@p.

Most of us support mental health reporting in the NICS system, but it has to follow due process which Obama's rule did not. You cannot deprive someone of their civil rights arbitrarily.

In the long run though, I think it's going to be more like the way we handle terrorism. A lot of police work, monitoring social media and "If you see something, say something" kind of alerts to law enforcement. The other thing we're going to have to acknowledge is that there will never be perfection. These kinds of things will happen no matter what we do i.e. the list of incidents I posted earlier where massacres happen in countries with strict gun control.

I think that is a reasonable idea and thanks for bringing that up.
Early on I said both sides need to get past the bickering, recognize that something needs to be done, and fix it.
Then I fell into the trap and started bickering.

I honestly believe there is a common sense approach that would satisfy both sides

You can pass all the laws you want, there are quite a few on the books already. The problem is enforcement.

NJ recently banned more than 10 round capacity magazines. There are an estimated 1 million gun owners there, not one person has turned in a now illegal magazine. Cops now say they would charge this felony in context with other crimes if they were found to possess one.

The Sutherland Springs church shooter was dishonorably discharged from the Air Force and therefore banned from owning guns - the Air force failed six times to report his domestic abuse to the authorities. He should have not been allowed to purchase the gun he used in his massacre, the law was in place.

So as we argue for common sense approaches, the reality is that there will always be cracks to slip through and the next tragedy will occur. The end game is confiscation of all guns, which isn't going to happen. So round and round we go.

Okay we'll stop the labeling business. But since we're talking about labels let's address this.

I mentioned two incidents that were major news stories where people needed significant firepower to protect their lives and property. Plenty of violence occurs from many things like protests at political rallys. Antifa is a bunch of spoiled white kids and they start plenty of trouble. But I find it really interesting that your first focus was on race. I don't need to own anything, maybe you do.

I did mention a couple of things that could be addressed since you said nobody had. But I guess that's just exact opposite back and forth? You're a critic of the conversation, but you're not contributing anything to the conversation.

I have voted for Democrats when their ideals are similar to mine. It doesn't happen often, but it has happened.

As far as the constant tossing of the racist label by some here, my search for examples of large scale riots had me looking for the L.A. riots particularly because of the store owners using guns to protect their property from the mobs. Ferguson came up in that search also so I included it because it was well known and matched the scenario. So I guess according to some people here Google is racist. What I find interesting is that I never considered race, only circumstances. It was the leftists here who focused on people's skin color.

While we're talking about labels, what would be a PC term? I need something to call the opposition to avoid confusion. How about "You people"?
