New 2025 Daiwa Tatula TW 200 looks to be a winner

Kind of a Big Deal - In My Mind Anyway

I'm a big fan of the original Tatula TW 150P, owning one myself, with the more powerful 5.5:1 gear ratio. Just the right size and cranking power for lighter fluke jigging applications. A very smooth-winding reel.

Now Daiwa has increase the size and beefed up the frame to the 200 size. There has been a 200 size Tatula for a while, but I never cared for it, as the frame was a bit too wide for my hand. Daiwa had to make it wide as they used a short, but wide 36mm tall spool to get the line capacity. Now Daiwa has redesigned it with a narrower but taller 38mm spool, so to allow for the narrowing up of the frame. Works for me - especially since they will offer it here in the U.S. with a 5.3:1 gear ratio - perfecto.

I believe this reel will eventually replace my old but sturdy TD Zillion Coastal 100 with its custom-installed 4.9:1 gears, which is now showing its age in both worn bearings and gears. The bearings can be replaced, but the gears are gonzo, just NLA in this country. One more season and that's gonna be it for a reel that's been a very good partner for my heavier fluking requirements on my Black Hole Charter Special deep fluker. Any small baitcaster than can live for 10 seasons pulling 8 and 10oz sinkers to the boat, not to mention also having husky fluke attached is a good piece, for sure.

Look for the new Tat TW 200 to become available early this Spring.

I've been hesitant to get one of these little bait casters because of the high speed ratios but 5.3:1 is right in the zone for bottom fishing.......finally!

Thanks for the heads up!
