Matt - all the above chatter will have you over thinking this whole thing, potentially throwing you off your game. Fishing has no hard and fast rules, there is room for all kinds of fish-hooking styles. The way I hook fish is certainly not the only way, it is just my way. Same goes for Mike - and YOU! It's perfectly fine to experiment with different styles, but in the end you need to do you. Seems to me from the pictures I've seen that you do just fine with the flat ones.
