Fluke Whisperer
Angler
First post of the year.
I have been working on my boat on and off since april, with the weather the way it is I had to pick my days.
Yesterday my son charles and I decided to take the boat out for a test run and maybe drop a line.
Weather was calling for a break in the storms and lightning around 11 am so at 10:30am we hooked up the boat to my new Dodge Ram 1500 built to serve truck.
I sold my old Tundra limited to a guy from NY that was in the Coast Guard, by the end of the month the truck will be in Fla, enjoy Keith.
So we head to the launch ramp and proceed to back the boat up, backing down was great but had a hard time getting the new staps I just put on off the back of the boat, it's always something.
Finally got it the water when the skies opened up. My son parked the truck and trailer and sat in the truck for 30 minutes waiting for the rain to stop.
My son got soaked even though the rain started to let up.
We left the harbor and headed to New Haven, bunker schools everywhere but nothing on them, told my son to open it up and test the motor out to make sure it's running good.
Ran over to New Haven west wall motor running excellent.
First drift I hook up with a nice fluke, so close 18" back it goes, my son hooks up with another fluke about 14".
We drifted for about an hour with an occasional robbin, then decided to move to the east wall and hit the drop off between the channel markers.
My line never made it to the bottom, I was hooked up to a nice fluke, got the fluke in and it was a nice 20" fish, first keeper of the year.
I drop down again and I hook up immediately with another nice keeper, 19.5, I let both go as we were not prepared to keep fish, it turned real nasty in a hurry and it was a race to get back in before the lightning and rain started, my son put the hammer down and we made it back just in time before the storm hit, and what a storm it was.
The trip was too short but I'm happy with the way the engine and the way the new truck handled the boat, it felt like there was no boat behind me. lol
We painted the boat and put a new rub rail on.
My new Truck and old truck.
Tight Lines everyone.
Stay safe and Healthy
