DeVito wasn't even the backup. He was 3rd string. Confusing decision

If Jones gets hurt this Season the NYG could take a 23M contract guarantee hit, tried to look into it way too confusing.

DeVito is a fan favorite and added a spark in his 6 starts; I believe he went 3 & 3. It’s a change desperately needed.

"Just in case." If Jones had gotten injured early in the season, IIRC, even with that injury clause in the contract, they might have gone with Lock. But now, every time Lock would start the Giants would owe him additional big bucks, hence Tommy Cutlets.

Funny, I looked at the 2019 Draft - Jones was selected at #6 and Lock was selected by the Broncos at #42.
