Still buying into 14 days to stop the spread

Omicron COVID variant symptoms

“We've seen a sharp increase in cases for the past 10 days. So far they have mostly been very mild cases, with patients having flu-like symptoms: dry coughs, fever, night sweats, a lot of body pains," said Dr.1 day ago

Hey, let's ignore the single, most important event of our lifetime and the it will go away!!

We can't stop it so let's not try!

Your leadership qualities are inspiring!?

Trying what?

Disparaging the "eggheads" who put their heads together and came up with a vaccine and a gameplan for dealing with this pandemic.

You might not agree with it but most of us DO!

The unvaccinated are the only reason we're still talking about Covid and variants!

Whats worse is the segment of unvaxed that keep spreading FALSE information.

The fact that most of you do means little to nothing
Wrong policies
Wrong programs
Wrong thinking

simply because it’s group think doesn’t make it right

all the shit you’ve tossed against the wall little to non of it has worked
The jury is still out on the vaccine only time will tell on that one
Lots and lots of time

As expected...

The first United States case of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus was reported in California on Wednesday, marking the arrival of a potentially dangerous new phase of the two-year pandemic and prompting Biden administration officials to renew their urgent calls for Americans to get fully vaccinated and, if eligible, a booster shot.

The patient, a traveler who returned to California from South Africa on Nov. 22, is in isolation, and aggressive contact tracing is underway, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said in a statement, adding that the individual was fully vaccinated and had mild symptoms that are improving. Close contacts of the individuals have tested negative, the agency said.

The World Health Organization has warned that the risk posed by the variant, a new iteration of the coronavirus first detected in southern Africa, is “very high.” More than 20 countries have found the variant so far.

Public health officials around the world have said for days that they expected the new, mutated form of the virus would quickly find its way to the United States despite its imposition of a travel ban on international travelers from eight southern African nations, a move several other countries also took.

But confirmation of the variant’s presence nonetheless was a jolt to President Biden’s efforts to make good on his campaign promise to bring the pandemic to a swift and conclusive end. At the White House on Wednesday, Mr. Biden said that “we’re learning more every single day,” and he vowed that the administration would “fight this variant with science and speed, not chaos and confusion.”

Shortly afterward, Dr. Anthony S. Fauci, the president’s top medical adviser, told reporters that confirmation of the new variant in the United States should persuade unvaccinated Americans to get shots immediately.

“We have 60 million people in this country who are not vaccinated who are eligible to be vaccinated,” Dr. Fauci said. “Let’s get them vaccinated. Let’s get the people vaccinated, boosted. Let’s get the children vaccinated.”

Dr. Fauci expressed optimism that the country would eventually emerge from the grip of the pandemic, saying that “there’s no doubt that this will end.” But he also urged caution, saying there was much that health officials still did not know about the new variant.

Ah, transmission initiated within US, probably at the Javits Center...

Minnesota reports second U.S. omicron Covid case in resident who traveled to New York City

  • The man, who was fully vaccinated and has since recovered, traveled to New York City to attend the Anime NYC 2021 convention at the Javits Center from Nov. 19-21, the department said in a statement.

  • New York Gov. Kathy Hochul said on Thursday that there are currently no confirmed cases in the state.

Another Omicron case is detected in the U.S., this time in a Minnesota resident who had traveled to N.Y.C.

Minnesota health officials said on Thursday that a man who lives in the state was infected with the Omicron variant of the coronavirus. The man, who officials said had recently traveled to New York City, represents the second known case of the variant in the United States.

Leaders in Minnesota said the discovery was unsurprising, and credited robust disease surveillance systems for finding it.

“This news is concerning, but it is not a surprise,” Gov. Tim Walz said in a statement. “We know that this virus is highly infectious and moves quickly throughout the world. Minnesotans know what to do to keep each other safe now — get the vaccine, get tested, wear a mask indoors, and get a booster.”

Much remains unknown about Omicron, including whether it is more transmissible and capable of causing more serious illness. There is some evidence the variant can reinfect people more readily.

According to the Minnesota Department of Health, the man is a resident of Hennepin County, which includes Minneapolis. He had been vaccinated and is no longer feeling symptoms, the department said.

The man first developed mild symptoms on Nov. 22, shortly after traveling to New York City for the Anime NYC 2021 convention at the Javits Center, the department said. The announcement did not indicate whether the man had traveled anywhere else recently.

He was tested for the virus on Nov. 24. The state’s Public Health Laboratory determined that he had the Omicron variant. Minnesota officials said they were working with New York City and federal health officials to look into the case, and that the man has spoken with case investigators.

On Wednesday, California health officials announced that a San Francisco resident had been infected with the Omicron variant — a finding they emphasized was inevitable, as they worked to contain alarm over the variant’s discovery in the United States.

Experts have said since the Omicron variant was first identified that it was only a matter of time before the variant made its way to the United States, and that once a case was detected, many more would probably soon be found.

“I’m personally surprised it took this long” for the first case to appear, Dr. Bob Wachter, a professor and chair of the department of medicine at the University of California, San Francisco, said on Wednesday. “Today it’s in California, tomorrow it’ll be several other states.”
