On line US passport renewal - Major Props

Since our passports were going to expire in June 27 and we don’t have any international travel planned, figured now would be a good time to renew them.

Got to say the current on line renewal site and procedure was A-1!! Site clearly prepped you for what’s needed and great at walking you through the process. After completion, we were told we should see our passports by October 15. Well, they blew that out of the water with our passports in our mailbox on SEPTEMBER 15, 2 weeks after our submission!!

Best passport service I’ve had since we had “people” doing it for us at work and they turned things around in 3 days at great expense to the company.

Same experience👍

Would that also apply if your passport is expired, or if you're a first time applicant?
IIRC you have to do a first time passport application the old school way, whatever that is these days. If your expired passport is not expired over 1 year, it's fine for the online system, but please, don't depend on my memory. Realistically, a passport that's going to expire in 6 months is useless, as most countries won't allow you to travel into them, so that's why we always renew when we start to approach that 6 month figure.

Sad news is that the new passports are very "online" centric, and there won't be many stamps collected from foreign countries and none from the US when you return. It was always fun looking back at stamps over the years...

Thanks.

I didn't think the online thing was going to work.

I used to keep a current passport when I would work on foreign ships. You might get on in the Port of New York, but if the ship started moving and you missed the pilot boat who knows where you might end up.

Of course, those days are long gone and Mrs. Avenger is too neurotic to travel anywhere that requires a passport. However, it might be a good idea to get a current one anyway. One never knows.

Heard on the News that in 2027 you’ll be able to do fist time Passports online. What concerns me is that they plan to consolidate all US Gov activities to a new single website. If it works 🤷‍♂️ it would be terrific but……….
