My only complaint about the Grovers were that they rolled a bit while drifting or at anchor but there are always design trade offs. And few boats that size could cross the Atlantic like Al's boat did. They are as seaworthy as they come.

Wise words, there is no such thing as a "perfect boat", and people who are searching for one, will keep the used boat market with nice, hardly used boats for us to buy.

Very true! I really liked my old Mako center console. 1977 20 footer. The beam was extremely large for a boat that size. Handled the chop in the LIS with ease. Unfortunately the engine crapped out and I couldn’t afford to repower it.

I've got a 1995 21ft Seaway CC downeast design that's been in mothballs for 10 yrs (got into kayak fishing in big way). Now that I am retiring in a month I'm going to uncover her and shop for a new motor. Hitting the boat show Thursday to checkout motors. Currently have a 75hp on her and will definitely upgrade to a 90 if not a 115. This style boat is designed to go 25mph and sip gas so a bigger engine is overkill.

Sweet looking boat!

Just be careful looking at 4-strokes, which you should obviously look at. Issue is that they weigh more per HP than 2 strokes so they may be too heavy for your rig AND being that old, there are probably wood stringers and plywood in your transom construction so you need someone to make sure its condition is appropriate for any engine.

As far as "sipping gas", at least with 4 strokes if the top HP of a 4 cylinder overlaps with the bottom HP of a 6 cylinder series, like the 200 HP Yammie, go with the 4 cylinder. Less gas and 100 less lbs on the transom.

Good advice. My current engine is 300lbs (the 75 is a de-tuned 90). I'm planning on putting the boat in at the ramp and putting some solid cement blocks in the stern to make sure the scuppers stay above the waterline when the weight is up at 375lbs. I know Harry Farmer (the builder) encased the stringers in fiberglass. I believe the transom is solid but will certainly have it looked at before spending $11k on an engine (I bought the boat new plus trailer for $6k in 95').

you gonna be putting this engine on prior to moving down this way?

Love it Dcbassin, The live well, the conditions. It looks to be early morning the top pic? The smile on your face seems to say you have a 48" keeper bled in the box. Drifting around C&R now. Looks like you have one swimming over the port side. I'm sure the big girls are up from the Chesapeake and coming through the Sound by the time that top pic was taken. It's my Birthday. Always seems to be busting wide opening by then. Beautiful Rig.

Awesome ride:cool:
What..the boat, which is pretty awesome...she doesn't mind the LI Sound chop either...the faster you go, the better it handles it. Nothing like 20+ feet of tog hunting deck on both sides(y)
Or do you mean the ride from VA to NY....that wasn't so awesome...pretty damn scary in the first tunnel of the CBBT:eek:

Went to the boat show last night since I'm in the market for a new motor. Crazy prices for new boats sure glad I own one already. Spoke with Bill from Alberston Marine who is going to inspect the transom and stringers (poke a moisture meter here and there) to make sure my ride is ready to handle a new motor before I buy.
