Plumbing Help - I have met the enemy, and it's a "Collet" connector. Any ideas or tricks?

Went to replace a hose on my spray head kitchen faucet which started to leak. Nice thing about Kohler is that they send you replacement parts free.

BUT it's a Collet connection, with the female part being all plastic. The "push the hose up so the white ring goes up and then pull down on the hose" instruction isn't cutting it, as I can't get the damn thing to move at all and am afraid to really push hard, lest I blow the fitting apart.

Yes, I could take the faucet out to do it, but what a PITA. Is there a trick I'm missing for a uncooperative collet connection?

Here's a picture, hose is on the bottom...

Today's Lesson - What's a Pyrrhic Victory? It's a victory won at too great a cost for the victor. Today was a great example...

YES, I FINALLY GOT IT DISCONNECTED. Turned out that I could grab the hose with gas pliers and force it all the way up while wiggling it back and forth, and then being able to hold the tab while I wiggled the hose out of the connecter with the gas pliers.

HOWEVER, when I tried to remove the old hose up through the faucet as instructed, there was too much congestion in the hole through the sink top with all the other piping, so I ended up having to disconnect and remove the faucet to install the new hose.

When I was stymied on disconnecting the hose yesterday, I just should have gone with faucet removal and the reinstallation. Without using the pliers, there would have been NFW to pull this off. Wait a minute, the YouTube "Experts" never used pliers, nor did the instructions mention them.

It would have been a cinch removing the connector with it lying on the sink top...
