Porgy Time

Chinacat

Well-Known Angler
Me and my son were determined to do one more Peconic porgy run. Last weekend was a no go with the wind so it was a bummer to wake up to the fog yesterday morning. Late start leaving the dock at 10:15 then headed thru the locks for perfect conditions. Got to our spot and it was a slow pick for awhile. We started thinking maybe they moved out and it was all over for the year. Patience paid off and once the tide turned and started to rise it was lights out. It got so crazy I was just baiting the hooks and bleeding fish for the box while my boy kept reeling them in. By 4:15 we had to stop knowing we had a long ride home and I’d be cleaning fish in the dark. Ended up with 27. A good mix of small tasty ones for the table and more than enough big ones for the smoker!!
Today I’ll be smoking them along with some bluefish seabass from Thursday
