Post up up your 2019/2020/2021/2022 Blackfishing Pix/Reports/Adventures/Musings

Excellent day of blackfishing on Captain Mike's Captain's Table out of Southhold. At least a double limit of quality fish (ORL of course!), including NYAngler member Russ/Quiknet's jig-caught 10lb8oz fish. Basically drop and stick fishing for the last 2 hours that we fished. If you're thinking of heading East for what has become the best tog fishing of the past few seasons, NOW is the time! Bring jigs and normal rigs, as the fish are responding well to both methods, depending on tidal current conditions.

I was fishing on my dear friend Fred’s commercial boat out of montauk NY when I hooked into this 18.1 reefdonkey. I’ve broken my p.b 2 times the past year and they were all on the bottom you put me over . Thank you for getting me over that fish of a lifetime !
Rod used was A CT’s bj 701 built by our very own captain Richie out of Atlantic custom rods . For those who don’t fish CT’s rods and think they’re “to light” best check them out . 2 guys on the boat I fish with are going to see Richie this week for new builds . When they saw the rod in action they finally understood the power in this rod. I high sticked the fish the first 20 ‘ and she held up beyond what I thought it could even do. I can’t say enough about this blank , my Zeus 1 is now retired and I am going the way of CTS! Thank you for rushing this build for me Richie and dealing with me changing my mind 4 times lol!
Main line 50lb suffix 832
Leader was 60 pound pink Ande, 20’ top shot
Hook leader was 80 pound yozuri fluorocarbon
2 5/0 owner ssw cutting point hooks tied to a snafu rig
Reel used was a saltiga 10 Jdm model from jigging world.

I usually don’t post reports or anything like this but those of us who are die hard tog fisherman no catching a fish like this is like winning the super bowl for us . They’re out there, just keep putting the time in and stay sharp!!

P.S.I hope everyone gets the chance to feel the first 4 runs this fish took........

Congrats on the fish of a lifetime.

Sailed again on Saturday with Capt. Mike. I love that East-end of the Island. Water always so clean. Anyway, conditions were perfect for another shot at his shallowest of drops. While it was not a lights-out bite as our previous visit featured, it was steady, and we ended with a limit to 5.5lbs, tossing back a few that could have been right on the line. I brought some self-caught whites, and thought that they made a difference. Hoping to get another shot at those Fisher Island bruisers, but that depends more on the tides and weather, than anything else. Meantime, the West-end deep-drops are calling my name. . . . won't be long, not at all.

Job well done bro. Thank you for the valuable and detailed intel on tackle used. I field tested a BJ700 spinner rod tog jigging last week with Capt Richie and no question you can feel bergalls breathing on your crab baits and yet have the backbone to muscle a DD with ease. No problem.Bravo brother for a new PB.:)(y)(y)

Slow pick today dinner wins once again!! I must say a steamed ling ginger & scallion style easily beats a steamed tog and id even put it slightly ahead of a Seabass due to the light flakeyness of the ling and natural sweetness of the meat.

I couldn't agree more. As long as these often overlooked fish are properly cared for by immediate bleeding and icing, steamed or otherwise cooked, Ling is still King!

Right on for immediate bleeding and same day consumption since I don’t know how to make fish cakes ?

Took advantage of the quarter-phase moon's lighter East-End currents to fish yesterday on Capt. Mike's "Captain's Table." Went waaay East for a very decent limit to 6lbs, with at least 50 shorts for the three of us. Nice conditions in the early morning quickly went to h*ll, as the weatherman got it wrong again, big time. Fishing in a washing machine isn't my idea of fun, but we persevered and did get ours!

Lep was out there yesterday and like you we had our share of shorts and a limit up to 7 lbs. It took an hour to get out there early in the morning and three hours to make it home in a 23’ Steiger pilothouse! Sporty to say the least...
