Post your 2019-2024 Fluke Pix & Trip Reports Here!

You have a point Lep. I had one flurry working hard short drifting that produced. Plenty of small sand eels around and Robbins, but that traditional first wave of big fish are two weeks late now.Water temps in the sound are still hovering around 53-54 degrees. I'm expecting to see bluefish arrive this week after this moon, as we haven’t seen one.

Some blues are around. Lots of schoolie bass around too. I mean LOTS!

I marked a good amount of bait too, three days before not so much.

First wave came through on Saturday. ;)

Fished locally, avoided any resemblance of a fleet I saw. I fished away from all boats and was rewarded.

My first keeper was 22". The second was 25.5" and very fat. He weighed in at 6.2 pounds. His little brother was 5 pounds.

All GULP!, all the time!

Nice!!
See I told you to allocate some time for eating fluke this weekend!!

Speaking of eating - based on the reporting, it looks like the only fresh fish I'll be eating for a while will be as this past Saturday's dinner: broiled codfish teriyaki over arugula salad, w/a little miso-ginger dressing. Store-bought & fresh-caught, prepped by Mrs. Lep. A nice Asian/Italian fusion. It was freakin' scrumptious!

Very nice, Beautiful flattie! And what rod is that I see in the rod holder behind Mr. “Doe?” Jigging World or Black Hole?

BTW, 11lbs2oz is the exact weight of my personal best. It was Years ago - maybe this season we better that? Eh, hope springs eternal . . . Or so they say. ?

You nailed it Pete, Black Hole paired with a Shimano

Best of luck this season I look forward to seeing some flying saucers ?

Ran my first ocean trip of the season solo yesterday, nice long initial shake-down of the boat, zero issues found, just a sweet day outside. Made the usual sandy bottom stops in increasing depth, a few shorts here and there, with some truly monstrous winter dogs around the deeper drops. Big Surprise.

Took an early-season run to Cholera (eh, because why not?) for a couple of lost bucktails, a half dozen impressive sized dingalings and some MONSTER cbass - all returned - because who needs the drama? Once DEC or the Bay Constable gets ya, you're always a target. Not a fan of that at all.

Anyway, pulled the plug at 1:00 for a lovely run back to the dock, cleaned the fish, washed the boat and home to my wife's excellent "Toaster Oven Ling Oreganata." Delish!

So, no keeper fluke and no first-trip boat issues - I guess I'll take that. I think another two weeks of good weather will get the ocean ball rolling.

As an aside Kal, Found that my brandy-new Black Hole Charter Special Slow Jigger spiral stick (with my customized Zillion Coastal) is really a very sweet rod for ocean fishing - nice wide 2 to 6+oz range, excellent sensitivity, very well balanced and light in weight to the hand. . . your friend chose his rod wisely . . . (y)

Slow fishing weekend. Saturday caught a nice 22.5" flattie, and a 'keeper' yesterday. I did not go out on Sunday.

They seem to be getting smaller

Joe - the blank number of the Black Hole that we're talking about is:

68/H3R Slow Jigging Blank

Excellent for ocean fishing. . .
