R.I.P.

still trying to process this.....................

Recieved word late last night (1:30 ish) that my Uncle had passed from a massive heart attack.
He was 81. 10 years older then I.

We were very tight at a time. He drove me and my brother up to Expo 67 in Montreal in his Mustang convertible. At one point passing an Army covoy of 23 trucks (we counted) without returning to the correct lane (49 years ago) somewhere in New Hampshire with a vow to "never tell your mother". He was all of 21 years old at the time.

Hung out at his house in Mt. Sinai with him and his wife in my 20's. He moved to California about 30 years ago to be near his daughters. Lost a lot of contact with him at that point but still saw him from time to time when he came eastward but never lost "that bond".

He was one of a kind. A Gentle Soul. Actually spent two years in a Seminary studing to be a priest at one point before deciding it wasn't what he wanted. It's kinda what you did if you were "old school Irish" in those days. First born male goes to the Priesthood.

It now makes me the oldest male in the family. The "Patriach" as it is, I don't blame him for that. Shit happens. But wish he was around to claim the title.

So I maybe headed to California in the near future. To pay my respects. To try to sooth his daughters & grandkids grief.

All I know is I will miss him.
Rest in Peace Uncle Don................
