Thank youHi fisherman - some more info would help narrow down a reels or two for your BH. What fish are you targeting?
Thank you very muchOkey Dokey, I like and use myself the Daiwa Tatula 150P and the Abu Garcia Revo Winch - I have the Gen4, but the Gen5 version is even nicer. Both of those feature an "around" 5.3:1 retrieve ratio. If you do a little searching (hint: Ebay) you should be able to buy the Tatula for the right price. Or you could go budget and look at the RevoX Gen5 in the 5.4:1 ratio. Its basically a previous-generation Revo Winch Gen4, which as I said, I also own and use regularly.
Try to stay under a gear ratio of 6:1 as it will help with cranking on better fish without pulling the hook.
If you want to spend more money, I can help there too. But the reels I mentioned are so nice, there's really no need to spend more - unless you want to, that is.
If you're feeling "creative" here's a thread that's worth a read-thru. It demonstrates want can be done with an "inappropriate' reel to make it a killer fluking reel. Not cheap, but the cost of happiness is an individual choice.
Whilst wandering the NJ SW Fishing Expo this past March with my friend Eddie/Savvy18 the subject of the Daiwa Coastal TW200HS came up. Its always been a very pretty reel - possibly the best looking SW-intended baitcaster on the planet - but the uber-fast 7.3:1 gear ratio is a great big turn-off - and not just for me.
I pointed out the reel to Eddie at the Daiwa factory kiosk - he told me he already owned one, but didn't enjoy using it because the extremely fast 7.3:1 gearing was just not what works well for fluking with any kind of weighty bucktail. Not to mention it was way too fast to...
