Rut-Roh, Electric Vehicles losing some of their charm...

Here are some basic facts and statistics that are readily available via quick google search:
How many fires in NYC a year?
The Department responds to more than 300,000 fires

What causes most fires in NYC?
New York City Fires Are Still Much Too Common And Deadly
  • Electrical fires (36%)
  • Smoking (29%)
  • Open flames such as candles or matches (16%)
  • Careless cooking (14%)
I'm not a math expert or a statistician, but can I can do basic math and conclude that based on these statistics, 108 out of 300,000 is not alot

And YES, EV fires happen and cause some serious damage, but to totally trash EV technology over it is wrong

CBS local news 12:00 noon today, E-Bike batteries are leading cause of fatal fires… ???

very strange roots on that "tree." I would think that for several reasons the top of the tree and branches would be removed before the roots were cut, if that pic is real.

I could write a very green report for the right price lol
Whether you, me., or anybody else likes it, agrees, with it, disagrees with it, EV and renewable/alternative energy is evolving and coming
Is is going to 100% solve our problems, of course not, but its definitely going to be a part of the long term solution

The EVOLVING part is the important caveat. The technology and infrastructure is not in place for EVs to meet some of the very aggressive goals set for the elimination of sales of fossil fueled cars. If you live in an suburban area and only commute 20-30 miles total a day, things are fine. Live in a rural area, and routinely travel long distances, and you're SOoL!!

Case in point, I have to go down to Boston once a month, a 374 mile round trip. I can fuel up once for that trip, BUT since the hotel I stay at, and the places I park at do not have chargers, so I'd have to stop at least once en route and spend an hour playing with myself to charge, while a gas fuel up takes 5 min. Of course I have to find a working, high speed charger for any 1 hour charges, and God forbid if it's really cold out, sapping my battery.

I'd like to buy an EV, but they're just not ready for prime time. Our next family car will be a hybrid, it's the only reduced emission car that works for lifestyle. The only EV I could use is a truck to replace my Tacoma, as I only put 4,000 miles per year on her just hauling the boat, going to the dump and trips to town, but WTF would I spend >$60K on a truck that doesn't need replacement? I bought it as my "Pinebox Truck" so folks can haul my pine box casket to the cemetery when I go.
