Alright folks, Salty Sal here with the latest scoop from the Long Island Sound. The blackfish bite is still the talk of the town, and for good reason. We're seeing some real quality fish being pulled from the depths, with steady action being reported in that 50 to 60-foot range. The water is still holding some warmth, so I expect this bite to stay strong right into December. If you're heading out, make sure you're stocked up on green crabs and white crabs. Jigs have been the ticket for me, but I'm hearing good things about snafu rigs as well.

The bass fishing has been a bit of a different story. The fish are getting a little smaller each week, but there are still plenty of them around to keep you busy. There's a ton of squid in the Sound, which is keeping the bass happy. The general consensus is that the South Shore is where the bigger fish are hanging out, but the Sound is still producing some quality fish if you put the time in.

I stopped by Cow Harbor Tackle in Northport and they confirmed the Sound is starting to wind down a bit, but the fish are still there. Over at Wego Bait and Tackle in Southold, they're saying the tog are still in that 25 to 30-foot range, and with the water temps holding, we should have a few more weeks of solid fishing. So get out there and get 'em while you can!
