Smallies attack a bait each and every time. They are tough and my favorite freshwater fish to catch. I don't east much freshwater fish, aside from trout and walleye. I was coerced into bringing a 6- pound smallie back to a lodge we were staying at in Lake George. I figured with that pristine water I'd give it a try.

The chef cooked it up and it was horrible. Mushy and gross.

As for my dilemma, Steve did manage to do a lot better than I. The big difference is - I didn't have to row - Steve never lets me row anyhow.

Yes George I would think so bout bass being mushy. I get LMs in South Florida the Spanish friends want em,,yuck. No Smallies there too.. peacock bass there, fight like hell especially on 5ft rod with 6# line...have fun... cellie...,

Got out with my son up in Connecticut this morning ..... light rain and we were the only boat on the reservoir. My best Smallie was 2 lbs. They are mean !
It was great fishing again on the boat we built together 18 yrs ago !

Yea George, I’m in Pembroke Pines bout 13 miles due west of lauderdale... all the fresh water lakes , canals have peacocks,,, I had a few 4,5,6 lbers,, no comaparison to large mouths,,, peacocks were brought in from South America with good results they say... cellie...

Top pic ain’t me, fellow and his lady fished a live shiner and large mouth bass picked it In seconds... juvenile peacock bass bottom pics , fool me for bigger fish all the time,,, cellfish...

Oh yea only smallmouth bass and bluefish make eye contact with you and when they do they look pissed
