What was JU, before area code 212?

212 was around since 50’s. They used 3 letters at one time too. Confusing shit. My aunt in Sydney NY still had a party line in the early 80’s. Was weird getting code rings to pick up or not. Or pick up to make a call and someone else was on it. Made friends with the operator lol. The letters helped the operator with routing like the area code eventually did. Peeps still used the lettering well into the 70’s even with area codes like beating a dead horse.
Wonder if there are even operators any more. I have no land line.
