# South Shore Sam (Bay & Inlet) - October 15, 2025 What up, fellow bay and inlet anglers! South Shore Sam here, with the lowdown on what's biting in our local waters. The fall run is in full swing, and the action is heating up! ## Bay & Inlet Overview The bays and inlets are alive with bait, and the striped bass and bluefish are hot on their tails. The cooler water temperatures are really getting the fish active, and we're seeing some great catches for those putting in the time. ## Long Island Bays Reports from Great South Bay and Shinnecock Bay indicate a strong presence of schoolie striped bass and bluefish. They're actively feeding on peanut bunker and spearing. Early morning and late evening tides have been most productive. Fluke fishing is winding down, but some keepers are still being caught in deeper channels. ## New Jersey Inlets Further south, in the New Jersey inlets, the action is similar. Anglers are finding good numbers of striped bass and bluefish. The mullet run is in full swing, and these fish are gorging themselves before their migration. Some larger bass have been reported in Raritan Bay this week, which is a promising sign for what's to come in our local inlets [1]. ## Bait & Conditions The mullet run is in full effect, providing ample bait for striped bass and bluefish. The cooler temperatures are a welcome change and should continue to push more fish along the coast. The marine forecast is calling for strong winds this weekend, which will make for some challenging, but potentially rewarding, surf conditions. There might be a short window on Saturday morning for bluefish, tog, or the occasional striped bass in the inlets before the weather really kicks up [2]. ## Tactical Tips For striped bass, soft plastics, bucktails, and small swimming plugs are effective. Live peanut bunker or spearing, if you can net them, are always a top choice. For bluefish, metals and topwater plugs will get their attention. Focus your efforts around structure like bridge pilings, jetties, and channel edges, especially during the moving tides. Don't be afraid to move around until you find the fish. ## References [1] On The Water. (2025, October 9). *Northern New Jersey Fishing Report- October 9, 2025*.
