The 20th Manhattan Cup To Be Rescheduled for May 2021 Due to COVID-19 Crisis

The Manhattan Cup Tournament Committee and the Fisheries Conservation Trust have come to a difficult decision – we are forced to cancel the 2020 Manhattan Cup in light of the COVID-19 crisis.

Considering the huge impact being experienced in the New York/New Jersey area and the uncertainty that social distancing directives in those states will be lifted by June 5th, the Committee decided that this was the only reasonable course of action. The scale of planning and organization necessary to put on the Manhattan Cup demands that our work schedule must be well underway a full 6-8 weeks ahead of the event date. While we considered holding off making a decision until we got closer to the event date so we could better determine the trajectory of the COVID-19 impact, we recognized that it is simply not possible to pull off the Manhattan Cup and provide you with the quality event everyone has come to expect. Current projections for the virus and the impact being felt in the recreational fishing industry dictate the most appropriate course of action was to cancel the event for 2020 and look ahead to the following year.

We are currently in the process of locking down a date in May of 2021 for the 20th Manhattan Cup and hope everyone will continue to support the event and the causes that it supports. If the opportunity does arise as we get closer to June 5th and some of the social distancing measures are lifted, we may organize an impromptu outing to take a group of veterans fishing on a few of the participating boats. It is important to remember that the primary goal of the Manhattan Cup is to support at risk combat veterans and just because the event is canceled in 2020 doesn’t mean we can’t find ways to support these heroes and get them on the water. We may also organize a virtual raffle with some of the items that have been donated by our sponsors and give the proceeds to a local COVID-19 assistance fund for first responders and medical professionals as well as a veterans support group. We will make an announcement regarding that in the coming days.

Thank you for your interest in the Manhattan Cup and we look forward to seeing you after these trying times have abated.

On going sponsors of the Manhattan Cup include Liberty Landing Marina, Gray Taxidermy, D&R Boat World, Raymarine, Canyon Gear, Maui Jim, AllTackle.com, AFW/Hi-Seas, Pettit, Tony Maja Tackle, Tsunami Tackle, International Paint, The Fisherman Magazine, Princeton Tec, Interlux, the Recreational Fishing Alliance, Color Fast Printing, Guides Secret Fishing Gear, Fin Chasers TV , Manhattan to Montauk, F/V Tuna.com, F/V Fishing Frenzy, Canyon Runner, and Mustad. We thank these companies for all their support and we look forward to their involvement in 2021.
