The COVID-19 Science and Medicine Question Thread

And be carefull who you flip on
Some of us flip back
With a vengeance

wear your mask
Wear your gloves
but I’d be care full opening your pie hole about what others are doing
Not everyone takes it well
Ummmm wasn't he talking about flipping HIS glasses that he has on the brim of his hat? It had nothing to do with flipping on people. Need to read more carefully.

No test is perfect, there are always some levels of false negatives and positives. If both of you were symptom free for at least a week or two, I'm thinking the wife's result may be a false positive.

That being said, it could be a, "Not Really False Positive, False Positive" as people with a previous corona virus, not COVID-19 or SARS, can have antibodies from that disease which are similar to COVID-19 antibodies and therefore be reactive in this test. It could be from a common cold, as many colds are caused by Corona viruses. I would assume that the documentation that came with your and your wife's results had some sort of explanation like that.

Another question is whether or not the test was IgG specific or a "Total Antibody" test?? If it was a total, that means it detected both IgG and IgM. IgM tests are notorious for false positive issues...

My test came with no expiation

just a negative notation from quest on the site

My wife got her result from the doctor
No written results to her
Maybe doctor has them but she just got the result

Wife was symptom free over 3 weeks prior to test
Maybe a month

I was at least 2.5 to three weeks
And I only had mild mild symptoms
Feaver chills , and that’s it
Like 2 days

got those about 10 days after she had her symptoms

And it’s reasons and reasoning like this

that makes me say
Let the pigeons loose we are spinning our wheels with the entire containment , mitigation strategy

Bring on Darwin and the Swedish model

 ,but I hear you. I think if the stores just had senior or underlying condition hours and oldsters wore gloves and masks we would not have had to screw ourselves so royally. No visitors to hospitals, nursing homes, etc. Take the temperature of kids in schools and quarantine the sickies. Those oldsters who refused to adapt, well, that is where the Darwin Awards could have come in.

Yup, the same asshats that b4 all of this would cross the street without even looking both ways.

God help me but for some reason this stuff reminds me of a Flip Wilson Church of What's Happening Now skit:

Rev. Leroy (Wilson) says "The church has gotta progress! First it's gotta crawl!" The congregation cries back with approval, "Let it crawl, Rev, let it crawl!" Then Rev. Leroy shouts, "After this church crawls, it's got to stand up and walk!" The assembly responds with enthusiasm, "Let it walk, Rev, let it walk!" Then with a lot of animation Rev. Leroy, poised to sprint, shouts "After this church walks, it's must run!" The assembly, with responded enthusiasm responds, "Let it run, Rev, let it run!" Then finally the "big sell comes" from Rev. Leroy: "And for this church to run it's gonna take MONEY." Then from the shocked, silent assembly, one person shouts out, "Let it crawl, Rev, let it crawl!"

Sounds to me that you and your wife were tested with different test. I have inside knowledge on the manufacturer of the test Quest is running and it's a high quality one. Obviously I cannot comment regarding your wife's test since it seemed to be organized by the doctor. If hope it wasn't one of the early tests manufactured by Joe's Garage, Ltd.

Don't laugh, FDA allowed a slew of antibody tests from companies with little to no in vitro diagnostic testing experience to be sold with no oversight nor critical review. Specificity, the rate of false positives, was a problem with many of these so they recently shut that door.

There are many things that cause these tests to be inaccurate, far too many to elucidate here.

I’m sure my GP is pretty good and he’s up on his stuff

I would be doubtful that he would utilize a crap test

I’m also 100 percent sure she had it

fever 3 days
Fatigue
Cough for a week
Tightness in chest

then my cat came down with the mopes and a cough

then I got a fever and chills and some stomach discomfort and the runs Few days
Can’t tell me that we didn’t have it here

Oh and some chest tightness when breathing deeply but no shortness in breath ( but I chalked that up to my daily cigar )

that’s gone now too
